The Almodóvars Presented with Distinguished Service Award at Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting

Board Chair Greg Brown presents the 2023 Distinguished Service Award to Rey Almodóvar.

HUNTSVILLE, AL – February 2023 – The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber hosted its Annual Membership Meeting on Tuesday, February 7th at the Von Braun Center. During the event, in his last official act as Chair, the 2022 Board Chair Greg Brown presented the 2023 Distinguished Service Award to Rey and Cynthia Almodóvar. Rey is the co-founder and CEO Emeritus of Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation (INTUITIVE®), an aerospace engineering and analysis firm headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama that provides production support, software and systems engineering, programmatic support, product development, rapid prototyping, and technology management to the Department of Defense, other State and Federal Government agencies, and commercial companies.

The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor the Chamber bestows to a deserving volunteer in the Huntsville/Madison County community.

Rey and Cynthia are active participants and champions of the Huntsville/Madison County community—going above and beyond when it comes to giving back. The Almodóvars support Huntsville’s legacy as a community committed to education, science, exploration, research, discovery, arts, music, and conservation. Inspired by the work of many, the couple backs a broad range of local charities and events.

“Rey and Cynthia are incredibly deserving of this honor. Some who win this award are recognized for business leadership, some for their community service, and others for their life-long passions,” said Brown. “Rey and Cynthia exhibit all of these attributes and so much more in all the ways they have given back and inspired others.”

In 2020, Rey and Cynthia received the Family Community Philanthropy Award presented by the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville for their philanthropic support of charitable organizations, local schools, STEM education, and young professionals.

Their generosity includes philanthropic partnerships with Huntsville Museum of Art, Huntsville Botanical Garden, Kids to Love, Alabama Constitution Village, U.S. Space & Rocket Center, University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the American Red Cross.

Mr. Almodóvar was appointed to the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission (ASSEC) in 2016 and served as the FY22 commission chair. Rey guided a partnership between the U.S. Space and Rocket Center to install the state-of-the-art INTUITIVE® Planetarium in 2019.

Rey’s other leadership roles were with the Business Council of Alabama, where he served as a member of the executive committee. He has worked on two governor-appointed commissions and has been instrumental in workforce development in North Alabama on the advisory board for the Advanced Manufacturing Integration Center. He served as economic development vice chair and board chair of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. The Almodóvars are volunteers, philanthropists, mentors, and servants of humanity.
