HUNTSVILLE, AL – July 2019 – The U.S. Space & Rocket Center held a Homecoming Dinner & Celebration to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 rocket launch on July 16.
VIP’s and guests gathered in the Davidson Center under the Saturn V rocket for an evening of celebration and talk of future space travel and exploration. The exclusive event was in high demand, selling out months before the occasion. In attendance were several guests of honor including astronaut Thomas P. Stafford, Dr. Margrit von Braun, and Alabama Governor Kay Ivey.
The evening’s events honored the anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, as well as the many individuals at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center who helped make the mission a success.
As the 50th Anniversary Golden Sponsor, Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation (INTUITIVE)’s Co-founder and Chairman of the Board, Harold Brewer, offered some words of appreciation for the engineers, scientists, and technicians that made the moon landing possible.
“I want to thank you for your ingenuity, your hard work, and your determination…And most importantly, thank you for your commitment to solving the hard problems,” said Brewer. “Myself, my team at INTUITIVE, and this community will always strive to carry on the Apollo legacy of solving hard problems.”
The presentation created a theatrical and awe-inspiring atmosphere through cinematic effects, historic video footage, and original music. The featured entertainment for the evening included the world premiere of “The von Braun Suite,” performed by the Brass Band of Huntsville conducted by Stephen Bulla.
Dr. Margit von Braun, daughter of Werhner von Braun, concluded the evening by urging attendees that though we should never stop pursuing space exploration, our main responsibility to our children and future generations is to take care of the planet we’ve been given, Earth.
