HUNTSVILLE, AL – June 2022 – Today we celebrate 20 years of the DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center’s Prototype Integration Facility (PIF)! Over the last 20 years, Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation (INTUITIVE®) has been a proud industry partner of the DEVCOM AvMC’s PIF right here on the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, with many of our team members working directly on-site. The AvMC’s PIF is a government-owned, government-operated enterprise acting as a rapid response unit providing integrated hardware solutions. Since its start 20 years ago, INTUITIVE has assisted projects in a variety of areas that typically include the integration of technology into aviation and missile systems, but often have complementary applications to other air, ground, under-water, and sea defense systems. In order to support the AvMC’s PIF mission, INTUITIVE identified and teamed with a variety of different companies from across the United States that have unique, yet complementary, capabilities. As the AvMC’s PIF has evolved, INTUITIVE has had the pleasure of growing and expanding with it.
The AvMC’s PIF vision to fill a need 20 years ago has resulted in the government developing many of their own designs and having unlimited access to that data for the future. From that moment in 2002, the AvMC’s PIF has only grown and become more impactful as they continue to support the Warfighter in quick, cost-effective ways. Over the years, INTUITIVE employees have worked alongside the AvMC’s PIF to bring these ideas to reality. Innovation is a key part of the AvMC’s PIF toolbox. This focus has allowed them to win multiple Army Greatest Inventions awards. This annual award is selected by a panel of combat veteran Soldiers who choose the most innovative advances in Army technology. INTUITIVE Design and Engineering Division Manager, Jeremy Clark, has had the privilege of working on a wide range of AvMC PIF projects including several that have earned the title of Army Greatest Invention. Clarks says, “The AvMC’s PIF is a hidden gem – a first of its kind” and that he is “proud to have contributed to its success over the last 16+ years”. He goes on to say, “The PIF’s rapid response approach has allowed us to meet the Warfighters unique, immediate needs. It’s incredibly rewarding to know your efforts are directly impacting our Soldiers”. The AvMC’s PIF does not just accomplish each task they are given, but rather they listen to the needs of the Warfighter and develop solutions in collaboration with stakeholders.
Many INTUITIVE employees have been able to work with the AvMC’s PIF since its inception in 2002. Ray Kendall, Principal Electrical Engineer at INTUITIVE, says he has “watched the AvMC’s PIF grow into a much larger organization with greatly expanded capability and reputation. As the AvMC’s PIF has changed, one thing has not: the people on the AvMC PIF team have always been a great pleasure to work with”. The AvMC’s PIF commitment has remained the same, but their innovations and impact have only increased. INTUITIVE’s additive manufacturing subject matter expert, Tommy Dupuy, says the AvMC’s PIF went from “a crawl to lightspeed in additive manufacturing” all thanks to talented individuals and the “can do attitude”. INTUITIVE considers it a great pleasure to have supported DEVCOM AvMC’s Prototype Integration Facility over the last 20 years.
