HUNTSVILLE, AL – November 2019 –Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation (INTUITIVE) has been awarded the 2019 Platinum HIRE Vets Medallion Award, which is given by the U.S. Department of Labor. This award is the only federal-level veterans’ employment award that recognizes a company or organization’s commitment to veteran hiring, retention, and professional development. The award was presented at the 2019 HIRE Vets Medallion Awards Ceremony hosted by Secretary of Labor, Eugene Scalia, at the Department’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. on November 6. CEO and Co-founder, Rey Almodóvar and long-time HR veteran representative, Jennifer Veal, were present to receive the award on behalf of INTUITIVE.
“The recipients of the 2019 HIRE Vets Medallion Awards demonstrated a commitment to hiring veterans and helping them develop meaningful, long-term careers,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor, Eugene Scalia. “From small-town businesses to Fortune 500 companies, these employers understand that veterans are uniquely qualified and dedicated employees who make significant contributions in the workplace.”
INTUITIVE approaches veterans through proactive recruiting methods and instating policies and benefits that appeal to them and their families. In 2012, INTUITIVE launched its Veterans Information Program (VIP) to further help the nation’s heroes settle into and excel in their new careers. INTUITIVE is committed to helping military personnel transition to civilian life and matches them to positions that embrace their military skills. INTUITIVE reaches out to veterans through career fairs and referrals from current employees.
Almodóvar stated, “Since the beginning, it has been our mission to support the Warfighter, both those in the field and those who served our country. This award is particularly valuable because it reinforces that our veteran policies are effective. We know that with each veteran we hire, we are getting someone with determination and drive to succeed – because those are characteristics of someone who unselfishly sacrificed their life for our nations freedoms.”
The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017 (HIRE Vets) requires the Secretary of Labor to establish a program, by rule, that recognizes employer efforts to recruit, employ, and retain veterans. As described in the Act, there are different awards for large employers (500-plus employees), medium employers (51-499 employees), and small employers (50 or fewer employees).
