INTUITIVE Serves a Small Texas Community After Devastating Tornadoes

Alto, TX – May 2019 – Alabama locals have become too familiar with the destruction of tornado season. That’s why an aerospace and engineering firm, headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, is joining in the rebuilding and recovery of Alto, Texas, after being hit by multiple tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service, a total of three tornadoes hit Cherokee County when a line of storms moved through Deep East Texas on April 13. The survey teams concluded the strength of the tornadoes rated as EF-2 and EF-3. The Alto Independent School District campus, which include an elementary, middle, and high school facility, took a direct hit. The high school is a complete loss. Upon hearing the news of the damage from an employee living in a neighboring community, leadership at Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation (INTUITIVE) wanted to get involved.

Alto Independent School District canceled classes until their buildings were deemed safe. High School students will finish the school year at the elementary and middle school buildings. LeAnn Jones, a coordinator for the district’s disaster relief and donations, explained the level of destruction to the small town’s infrastructure. “The devastation our town and community has suffered is not comprehensible,” she said. “Our high school is destroyed and a complete loss. Everything inside of it was also lost, including all computers, printers, textbooks, copiers, etc. Attached to our high school was a gymnasium and our shared district cafeteria that served all 685 students.”

An estimated 150 structures were damaged and 25 were completely destroyed by the storms. After learning of the school system’s damage to its facilities, INTUITIVE provided a donation to support the rehabilitation of Alto’s schools.

“It is important to us that we help our neighbors, near and far. The communities that we work and live in greatly impact our personal and professional lives, which is why we are so committed to protecting the well-being of the communities in which we serve,” said Harold Brewer, INTUITIVE Co-Founder and Chairman. “It gives us great pride to know that our support will help students in Alto- giving them the resources they need to move forward in earning an education. We encourage others to support this cause because it has the power to impact Alto ISD students beyond today, but into the future,” he added.

INTUITIVE has a total of 12 different locations including a field office in nearby Lufkin, Texas. The company has established a culture of service and fellowship with its surrounding communities. INTUITIVE’s Marty Pigg
presented a monetary donation to Alto Superintendent, Kelly West, on April 30th on behalf of all INTUITIVE employees. “It was obvious from the moment I pulled into the school campus that the Alto staff has quite a task ahead of them. Employees at INTUITIVE are glad that we can help during this time and wish Alto all the best over the coming months as they rebuild and get ready for next year,” said Pigg.

The city says any monetary donations can be made at BancorpSouth in Alto. The fund is labeled “Alto Relief Fund” and the number is (936) 858-4416.
