HUNTSVILLE, AL – February 27, 2019 – Last night, Great Place to Work announced its 2nd annual Great Place to Work® For All™ Leadership Awards during a gala dinner at the Four Seasons San Francisco. Harold R. (Hal) Brewer, INTUITIVE’s Co-founder and Chairman of the Board, was honored as a top innovator on Fortune’s annual list of 100 Best Companies to Work For, 100 Best Workplaces for Women, 100 Best Workplaces for Diversity, and 150 Best Small and Medium Companies to Work For.
Brewer was nominated by INTUITIVE’s President, Vergenia Shelton, for being an innovation leader at INTUITIVE. Shelton explained, “Brewer has consistently played a critical role in helping INTUITIVE drive innovation by inspiring ‘Innovation By All’ – where every employee feels inspired to take part in the innovation process.”
“Innovation By All” is defined by Great Place to Work as the way organizations today must approach invention and agility. Put simply, it means everybody creates, is connected, and contributes. According to Great Place to work, companies that build an Innovation By All culture generate more high-quality ideas, realize greater speed in implementation, and achieve greater agility.
As a rightful earner of the Innovator of the Year award, Brewer’s leadership has allowed his employees and company to adapt, improve, and generate game-changing opportunities. His experience and ability to see the “big picture” and develop innovative approaches enables customers to reach their goals.
Under his leadership, INTUITIVE has earned a reputation for solving hard problems with expert personnel and advanced technologies. “Hal’s commitment to innovation started well before INTUITIVE,” said Shelton. “His career has been a lifelong devotion to innovation. Since INTUITIVE was founded in 1999, Hal has ensured that innovation is woven into every element at the company. He is a brilliant minded and fearless risk-taker, and INTUITIVE wouldn’t be the leading organization it is today without his innovative spirit,” she added.
Brewer’s interest in employees’ ideas plays a major role in this success. He fathered the INTUITIVE Creativity Incentive Program (CIP), which has obtained four patents and created numerous commercialized products and technologies. Encouraging individual creative accomplishments is another significant way the company adds an avenue for work to have more meaning for employees. Whether it’s developing a new on-site research lab or leading efforts in emerging technologies and applications for drug discovery, Brewer works alongside his employees, giving them the tools, resources, and support they need to make a difference in the world.
Brewer’s passion for innovation runs deep- reaching outside the company and into the community. He is an avid supporter of Urban Engine, a nonprofit organization that accelerates STEAM innovation; and it was Brewer’s vison and mission to bring the INTUITIVE Planetarium to North Alabama. This state-of-the-art planetarium will open February 28 at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Brewer supports these causes and others because he hopes to inspire the next generation of big thinkers.
Brewer commented, “I am incredibility honored to be recognized as a leader in innovation. I believe that innovation is the process of creating something that makes life better, and that innovation is impossible without passion. Everyone recognized by Great Place to Work have something in common- we all see the world a little differently. Regardless of the sectors we work in, we are all focused on solving hard problems and creating a better world than the one that exists today.”
The awards gala kicked off the 16th annual Great Place to Work® For All Summit™, February 26-28 in San Francisco.
In recognizing honorees, Great Place to Work® CEO Michael C. Bush said, “We are honored to celebrate your shining examples of Innovation By All—the individuals and teams who have successfully created new products or built more inclusive cultures, and who have led their organizations to more fully maximize the human potential within their workforce.”
